KATHERINE DAWN AND ASHLEE ROSE Mike Lowell writes: "I have been following Katherine Dawn's career for a long time. I must say she is one of the hardest working artists on the Texas scene. All one has to do is visit her website to become emersed in all the historical photos and long list of who's who she has worked with. The list seems endless. I did a little research after having it pointed out to me the hotbed of talent brewing from the Texas Hill Country region. Certainly Katherine Dawn and up and rising talent Ashlee Rose can be called the Queens of the Hill Country scene. Turns out there are several other artists more than worthy of mention as well. Katherine and Ashlee are creating quite a buzz in that area on their own as separate artists. Now I come to learn that they have combined forces and are turning the focus to a tougher edge image and sound. Look out Texas.
KD writes: "I have some really GREAT nostalgic photos from the late 70's and early 80's. The one of me (in the Gallery) at thirteen was taken by Sam Kindrick. I was working the "Antlers Bar and Restaurant" in Boerne TX every Friday night. Sam was dating the bar maid "Libby". That year I remember well. A fast rise and "stall" to the local music scene fast lane. We "Cypress" opened for Augie Meyers and The Western Head Band , Mo Bandy, Johnny Bush at the Chili Cook-Off. Sam introduced us. My mother took a picture of him at the mic. He just loves that photo. I remember being faint at the site of still to this day THE largest crowd I ever sang too. rumored to be about 3000 people that weekend evening. Sam interviewed us for Action on Augies Bus. To think of it now it was living a dream. To remember how I felt then...we we're just being ourselves and I thought everybody in the music business got a bus. ha! Ha! pure, fearless, expectations."
Katherine Dawn is also notable for having worked with a long line of SA players in her long career. Such names as Clay Meyers, the Doyle brothers Jeff and Jerry, Robar Adams, Ric Swanson and many others come to mind all occuring from the 80's. In the 90's Katherine has worked with a who's who list of top country artists from all over the state. Heads up folks! A full fledged break out is due at anytime. When it does, let me say I told you so.
