(Contributed by Bert Frick) BF writes: "The Graven Image was comprised of 5 guys from Ft. Sam Houston. Jim Perrine-Rhythm Guitar and vocals, Pat Dunn-Lead Guitar and vocals, Bill Johnson-Bass Guitar and vocals, Alan Monsarrat-Lead Vocals and Front Man, Bert Frick-Drums and Don Youmans, sound engineer. The group was formed in 1967 and began by playing gigs at various venues on Ft. Sam Houston including T.A.G. (Teen Activity Group), the Raven Room at the Officers Club, the NCO club, and Cole High Schools student dances. It wasnt long until we joined forces with band promoter and booking agent, Sam Kinsey and began gigging at frat parties and clubs in the region, including frat parties at Texas A&M and Trinity University. We also played Lacklands NCO club, played Teen Canteen on Bitters and participated in a Ricci Wares Battle of the Bands. We even cut a 45 record that Augie Meyers produced (A side: Take a Bite of Life-B side: I Would But I Could). In the late 60s, The Graven Image were on a regional roll, until some of the guys went off to college. Pat Dunn and Bert Frick joined forces with Pat and Kevin Arnold to form the Love Patrol who played various local clubs, including downtown at the Savoy Club as house band for about a year. Alan Monsarrat migrated to Austin via Hawaii and played Bass guitar and sang Lead Vocals for regional powerhouse Gypsee Eyes which was comprised of Alan Monsarrat, Gary Bolen, John Stahely and Marc Singer. Alan now leads the Austin western/reggae band (ranch reggae) Stop the Truck. Other Graven Image members whereabouts are as follows: Bert Frick now resides in Boerne, Texas. Jim Perrine lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Bill Johnson lives in Corpus Christi, Texas. Don Youmans resides in Austin, Texas. Pat Dunn was killed in a car wreck in 1973, and is buried in Holy Cross cemetery in San Antonio, Texas."
