And the third is at the Cotton bowl. In November of 2008, the Rick Cavender Band was voted Best Band in San Antonio by readers of San Antonio Magazine. Current band members include Mark Malone on drums, Pete Williams on bass, Mark Stevens on steel, Rick Ramirez on keyboards, Alan Kolby on guitar, Rene Saenz on tenor sax and Bobby Flores.
"The Rick Cavender Band formed in 1980 out of Alamo Heights favorite party band Cactus Pride and the Rick Cavender Trio in Austin Texas. Band members since then have included Dubby Hankins, Don Forres, Jim Easterling, Mike Walker, Johnny Gross, Kevin Obrien,. From 1988 until 1992 the band went by the name of Rick Cavender and the Oh So Good Band. In 1992 the name shortened to the Rick Cavender Band as Dubby Hankins departed and formed his Oh So Good Band. Today, the Rick Cavender Band performs over 50 nights a year at private events and galas. They have opened and performed with Alabama, Glen Campbell, Tanya Tucker, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Gatlin and Dionne Warwick.
